Welcome

Head Teacher Sandra SamwellWelcome to the website for The Hemel Hempstead School. The school has played a significant part in the borough of Dacorum since 1931. The imposing façade with its stone pillars overlooking extensive playing fields leading to Heath Barn, our 17th century Music centre and thence to the village of Boxmoor, gives an impression of traditional values which underpin the school, whilst our many newer buildings speak of the progressive aspects of our daily work.

Our most recent OfSTED spoke of the ‘many outstanding features’ of our school, which include our ‘Care and Guidance’ and our ‘Personal Development’ as well as our curriculum and Key Stage 4 results. Featuring in the top 100 Most Improved Schools twice as well as the Financial Times Top 1000 schools based on A Level results, we are at the top of our game and in the top 25% of schools nationally on every indicator. The school has recently been identified as a High Performing Specialist school and has taken on an additional specialism in Science and Mathematics.

Our first specialism is Performing Arts, which enlightens and enlivens every aspect of school life. A talented and dedicated teaching staff, a thriving Sixth Form and a focus on examination outcomes whilst providing exceptional care, guidance and extra curricular opportunities, is what you see and what you get here or; as our motto says: “Esse Quam Videri”!

One recent accolade was be named in the top thirty schools nationally because of our exceptional GCSE results and the value we add between Key stage 2 and 4 for all our students. You will also see us featured regularly on GMTV in school based items or whenever a Headteacher comment is required on an educational issue apart from the school being used as a backdrop for numerous TV programmes such as ‘Poirot’ and BBC’s comedy ‘Class’ starring Sam and Mark.

Please come and see our school in action if you have a chance, but otherwise enjoy the website!
